Hey there gorgeous!
I asked on Instagram if you wanted a list with links to my favorite books + current reads. Basically every single one of you said YES PLEASE!
You ask, I deliver.
I will separate these books by books I’ve read that have helped me thus far in my career, and then those that are my current to read list or are current in progress. The books listed + the amazing authors journeys have been pivotal in my journey thus far. All are linked directly to the book on Amazon. If you have Prime, you could start reading them in 2 days! If you don’t have Prime (why don’t you? It’s amazing), then you can use this link to get a free trial! Try Prime
These books have helped me to get to where I am now. Whether they were simply motivation, or actionable. They all have played a part in my journey thus far. I swear by these books, recommend them to everyone, and can’t rave enough about them. I will link to them directly on Amazon so you can get them asap.
All of Gary Vaynerchuk’s Books
But really, I’ve read most of them and I love them all. I much prefer his voice or videos because his voice and delivery is a LOT of what motivates me, but I think he has great content in his books that can motivate you, give you actionable steps, and examples of those who have done it, along with Gary himself.
You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero
This book. Oh man, this book. I read it in a day, and have read it 3 times since. Speaking of which, I should add this to my currently reading stack again. It’s not necessarily business related, but I think that her motivation for yourself can in turn make you a better person in business. There are inspiring stories, advice, easy exercises, and my favorite thing, PROFANITY! Ok there’s not a ton but I’ll take the occasional over the nonexistent.
Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso
I loved this book. I loved getting a look at someones journey that wasn’t the typical journey. She didn’t go to business school, she learned everything as she went along. I think extremely fast growth, without the vast experience, could have possibly been what crippled the company. However, she rebounded, she made smart decisions and found a new path. I think her initial journey has a lot to teach all of us + her continuing journey has even more to teach us. Of course I also like that she’s different, she’s herself, and gives no fucks about it, even today.
Girl Code by Cara Alwill Leyba
I read this book on the beach in the Bahamas for my 30th birthday. It was the first I’d heard of Cara, and now I adore her inspiration and take on life, business, and everything else. This book was soooo good. I haven’t yet read her others, but a lot of babes rave about her other books too. I love what her description on Amazon says, “the fiercest thing a female entrepreneur can do is to support other women.” Ugh, I feel this so hard. I’ve talked about this and have an episode soon on competition. There’s too much competition and bullshit in this world. Too much faking it to be perfect. Too much time spent focusing on the competition vs. collaborating with like minded women to further BOTH your businesses. Girl Code is all about that and helping you view fellow women as community over competition.
Start with Why by Simon Sinek
So I read the book, but it wasn’t what got me most. While I definitely recommend reading it if you take things in better by doing that, I HIGHLY, HIGHLLLLLLY recommend watching his TEDtalk. I’ve watched it over 100 times. Every single time I watch it, it motivates the shit out of me. His theory, in the book and the TEDtalk, is all about your why and why you do what you do. He applies it to companies we see today as successful and exactly how they do it. In the talk, he also talks about those who have tried to do it but aren’t as successful because they haven’t mastered that part yet.
Currently reading/need to read books:
I can’t go into bookstores, because it’s easier than Amazon. I go in and walk out with 12 books. On Amazon, I typically get one at a time, as weird as it that is. But in a bookstore, I walk around arms full. It’s insane. So my to read list is usually pretty big haha.
The E Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber
- This one is important for me right now because it talks about growing your business strategically. Currently building the Metal Marvels team to help us be the most successful.
Waiting to be Read:
Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferris
Purple Cow by Seth Godin
Trust Me, I’m Lying by Ryan Holiday
How to Make Shit Happen by Sean Whalen
There you have it. As you can see, I LOVE books. I talked about this in Episode 4 , my LOVE for books. I listen to a ton of podcasts, and watch a bunch of keynotes, but nothing will beat a book for me. These are my favorites, current reads, and the stack of books sitting on my nightstand waiting to be read haha. Leave a comment and let me know if you’ve read any, and/or what has been your favorite book in your business journey!
