Zone of genius + Productivity

I wanted to talk about these today because I see a lot of people preaching this idea that in order to be productive or in your zone of genius you just do a few things.
First, you must get up early. Because “early bird gets the worm” right? I’m sure you’ve seen that video that circulates FB of a military guy saying the only way to be productive is to wake up an hour earlier than normal (usually around a god awful hour like 5-7 am) because of reason xyz. Because you def will be productive since he is, right? Wrong (sort of)… Secondly, a lot of them preach this idea that if you work from home or what not, that you’ve got to get ready to feel good, to feel productive, to be productive, etc. This idea they promote is that in order to be productive you have to spend time getting ready in order to be productive. Right? Wrong (sort of)
Here’s the deal + here’s why this all pisses me off. It’s false for a lot of people. We are alllllll different so pushing this idea and making people think they have to do these things in order to be successful is shit.
Some of us (ahem) work better in the later half of the day and simply can’t function early. Some of us choose to get fully ready to feel or be productive. Yet some of us can dominate the world from our bed, in pajamas, watching Tv lol.
I took a poll on FB + Instagram asking two questions.
To be in your zone of genius or most productive…
Are YOU in your zone in the Am or PM?
And, do you need to get fully ready (shower, hair, makeup, get dressed, etc) or can you crush it straight from your pjs (or dressed down, didn’t intentionally get ready)?
What do you know, the responses were very split! And surprisingly on both polls, more people said they could crush shit from their pjs. Meaning they don’t need to get up, shower, put on a face, do their hair or waste time getting ready in order to crush it, be a boss as fuck bitch, or make a shit ton of $. And they can all do it on their schedule.
This idea that you’ll only be successful by waking up early is horseshit. I have never been one for getting up early. Ever in my life. I prefer to sleep in, work until the late hours of the evening and go to sleep in the early AMs. I’ve always said “if I could be nocturnal, I would be” and I guess I sort of am give to take a few hours haha. With so many automation possibilities these days, even just scheduling posts can allow you to work on your own schedule. Planning things ahead of time. And when you get to that point like I am now (as of Monday), you have a team in place that handles the time sensitive things. But even without a team, you make it work. For 5 years doing this myself, I made things work for me. Of course, my old 9-5s fucked with my ideal sleep schedule but now, I’m on my own time.
So it was utilizing scheduling for social posts so early ones could go out while I’m asleep. Scheduling emails ahead of time. Planning meetings/calls for a time that works for you.
Oh, and growing your company to 6-7+ figures while wearing pajamas is absolutely fucking possible. Living proof right here. It’s actually very rare that I put on a full outfit these days haha. Of course, when I leave the house I do. But most of my time is spent in comfy clothes, pjs, etc. hustling my ass off. I don’t find it useless to waste time “getting ready” to sit here and work. It obviously can be your thing and what makes you feel good, but the reality is it doesn’t have to be so don’t listen to these people and think that in order to be successful you must change your schedule, and you must get dolled up to work from your couch.
How to be successful? Find your zone of genius and productivity and sit the fuck in it. Sit way in it. Find your perfect combination of time schedules, and routine, and stick to it.
You will be most successful when it fits you. I work better after 2pm. Period. I don’t know why 2pm but something clicks and I’m a machine. If I try to work at 10, I’m useless as fuck. I start around 2-3 usually and work until 8-10 at my desk. Eat dinner and then continue usually working from bed or couch on my laptop or my phone getting shit done. That will not work for everyone. So don’t replicate what I or others are doing. Find your zone of genius. It will be personal to you. You’ll know when that switch flips in you to hustle, plan your day & schedule around that.
Comment below and tell me: When’s your most productive time to start working (if you’re an early rise worker or if you hustle into the night) and if you’re a get ready babe or a crush it in comfy clothes type. I can’t wait to see the responses!
